Hendry Tamarez Nunez, 47, of the 800 block of Showell Court, Baltimore, Maryland has been identified as the man who died at the scene of the crash, York County Coroner Pam Gay said.
Shortly before 3 a.m. a tractor hauling an empty trailer entered I-83 South incorrectly driving north from Market Street on Oct. 9, the coroner Gay explained citing police.
Gay noted the correct onramp for I-83 was closed for maintenance.
Hendry drove his passenger onto I-83 in the correct direction when he came face to face with the tractor-trailers, so he traveled to the side of the road but ended up going over a guardrail, down an embankment, and striking a tree, according to the police.
He was declared dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Michelle Kirchner at 3:42 a.m.
The status of the tractor-trailer driver was not released.
A hazmat crew was called to the scene after a reported leaking fuel, according to York County Wide Communications.
The interstate closed between Exit 2: Route 30 to Exit 19A: Route 462 until 11 a.m. on Monday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Pennsylvania State Police are investigating this deadly crash.
Hendry worked at Towson University and was a father of two, according to his social media.
